About Our Dealership in Lawrence

Welcome to Commonwealth Motors!

Lawrence's Hometown Dealer, Family-Owned Since 1991

Charlie Daher grew up a quarter mile from where Commonwealth Motors stands today. The oldest of four children of Lebanese immigrants, he learned retail from his mother, Sally, who ran Daher's Shoes, a Merrimack Valley fixture for about 30 years. After Central Catholic and Boston College, he had one goal: own the dealership down the street.

On June 6, 1991, he did. Charlie bought the former English Tucker Chevrolet and opened Commonwealth Motors with fewer than 20 employees. Plenty of people told him it wouldn't last.

Why "Shop Us Last"

Charlie did things other dealers wouldn't. He opened service on weekends. He ran a free shuttle. He priced cars so customers had no reason to keep shopping. People who visited everyone else first kept ending up here, so it became our motto: Shop Us Last… You'll Love Us!

His rule has never changed: if customers are happy, the business will come. That rule grew one store into a five-brand campus off I-495, with Chevrolet, Honda, Kia, Nissan and Volkswagen side by side.

Still family. Still here.

Commonwealth isn't a national chain. Charlie and his wife, Elizabeth, also from Lawrence, raised their kids in this business, and today Melissa, Kimberly, Charles and Allison work here alongside him every day.
